Day #91: A Love Like Diamonds

A Love Like Diamonds

I know she’s gonna live forever
She can’t help it; she’s a lover
But sad songs are gonna rule the world
If I don’t find her, take my word:
Don’t fall in love with her.

I’ve lived, the times I’ve been with her
She’d believe it, if she’d seen it.
Strangers are all she’ll ever know
Until I find her, take my word:
Don’t fall in love with her.

Chorus:
Cause it’s a love like diamonds
That keeps her in my heart
Yeah, it can cut through anything
And shines brighter than a star
And it lasts, it lasts forever

Here’s all she ever said to me,
“Part of the answer is the question,
And I’ll share them all again someday,
If you find me, take my word:
I’ll fall in love with you.”

[CHORUS]

90 Days, 90 Songs!

Image

Woo hoo! Another milestone!

I’m learning a little more about song structure and themes and so on.

Anyway, this summer, I plan to write lyrics for other venues, such as a musical and a concept album–and any other song structure I can think of.

Until then...Excelsior!

Day #90: Under the Nighttime Sky

Under the Nighttime Sky

You look at me and I believe
I can tell love songs what to do
This super strength that I receive
Comes from the time I spend with you

But yet I still become so weak
Whenever I get close to you
‘Cause all the love that lovers seek
I’ve found in everything you do

Chorus:
(Tell me tell me tell me)
Tell me what I mean to you
(Tell me tell me tell me)
Tell me all that we could do
Under the nighttime sky
Give me your wings and let me fly
Under the nighttime sky

You look at me and make me feel
Like we can make a better world
I look at you, and you’re all real
And you’re all mine forever girl

Chorus

Day #89: The Moon Like Me

The Moon Like Me

After love songs, I’ll never be free
Trapped in lyrics, as only fools be
Hope the world sees such romance as true
Hope the world sees lovers and love songs, too

I’m a lifeline that I’ve never aimed
Don’t believe what your first glance may say
I’m an unwrapped pretender, it’s true
Hope that love is still what lovers do

If you like the moon like me
Come see the world from sea to shining sea
If you’ll take the top of the world
I’ll take you there,
It’s not so far away
When we make love on a Saturday
Saturday night.

There’s no sad song that I haven’t heard
And no warm day without a cold word
But that all fades when I’m here with you
All I hear is lovers and love songs too

Day #88: He Said Peace

He Said Peace

Here I am Lord
Lost in a storm
The wind and the waves
They overwhelm me
The wind and the waves
They threaten my life

Master tell me
Lord can you hear me
Lord don’t You care
That I am drowning
Lord don’t You care
That I can’t make it

And He said “Peace”
And He said “Be still”
Though he spoke to the storm
I know he meant me too
And He said “Peace”
And He said “Be still”
I’ll see you through the storm
And I’m always here with you

Here I am Lord
Lost in the world
I’m not conformed
But it’s so tempting
I’m not conformed
But it keeps calling

Master tell me
Lord can you hear me
Lord don’t You care
That I am drowning
Lord don’t You care
That I can’t make it

And He said “Peace”
And He said “Be still”
Though he spoke to the storm
I know he meant me too
And He said “Peace”
And He said “Be still”
I’ll see you through the storm
And I’m always here with you

Day #87: Time to Break Some Hearts

Time to Break Some Hearts

I know you think
that I’m an operator
Smoother than a silk tie,
living like a traitor
I know you wear your street clothes
better than me
You’re true as can be

That might have been the past
But now I’m changing
Now I’m with you
It’s time for rearranging
And tell the world there’s nothing
Better than you
Except me and you

Chorus:
It’s time to break some hearts
Can’t play Romeo forever
It’s time to break some hearts
Can’t own the town
It’s time to break some hearts
and settle down

If there’s a place on Earth
That hasn’t yet heard
I’ll find a way to go
And I’ll spread the word
And break the news, there’s nothing
Better than you
Except me and you

 Chorus

Day #86: Take Me to the Pilot

Take Me to the Pilot

Oh, thank you calendar
Once more you’ve set me free
You’ve brought me Friday night
It’s been a long long long long week for me

Oh, thank you, dancing shoes
You’ve saved my aching feet
I need some fun tonight
It’s been a oh-just-shoot-me week for me

But things are looking up, I say,
Tell good times I’m on my way

Chorus:
So take me to the pilot
Who controls the fun in this town
It’s time to get us all off the ground
So take me to the pilot
Yeah, take me to the pilot

Oh, thank you alcohol
Once more you’ve set me free
I need some fun tonight
It’s been a long, sad, lonely week for me

But things are looking up, I say,
Tell good times I’m on my way

Chorus

Day #85: Keepin’ it Real

Keepin’ it Real

If you’ve ever dreamed
You might believe they all come true
I can’t say you’re wrong
All I’ll say is good luck to you

If you’ve ever loved
You’ve spent your days walking on clouds
I won’t say you’re wrong
You’ll spend your nights crying out loud

Chorus:
Not trying to bring you down
Just an honest man, keepin’ it real
Hear bad news all over town
So tell me how do you feel
About keepin’ it real

If you’ve ever lived
Surely you’ve heard sad songs come true
Since there’s more than one
All I’ll say is good luck to you

Chorus

Day #84: Smoky Waters

Smoky Waters
(Jazz Improvisation)

Smoky waters,
don’t know why they run so fast…
got no past.

Dingy nightclubs:
Chorus line ain’t go no end–
got no friends…

Watered liquor,
Bourbon’s bleedin’ through the glass;
Life’s too fast.

Can’t stop runnin’,
Can’t slow down, or speed up none;
we just run…

Sax cat’s wailin’,
Pourin’ us like rainy days
pourin’ pain.

Solid, Jackson!
Got those blue notes boppin’ home
all alone.

Smoky waters,
Blinded band, just playin’ blues…
payin’ dues.

Day #83: Life’s Sweet Serenade

Life’s Sweet Serenade

She’s not your ordinary girl
She’s all the spices of the world
She just might sing a song of sixpence
Say, “Mother Goose is a friend of mine.”

She don’t like ordinary days
She spells the world so many ways
She just might be a stage magician
And leave Houdini so far behind

Chorus:
She is a part of life’s sweet serenade
She sings the sweetest song life has ever played
She is a part of life’s sweet serenade
She’d sing forever
And be a part of the grand parade

She don’t like ordinary games
“If they’re not new, they’re all the same”
You know she’d make a priceless shyster
If we could ever put love on trial

Chorus
